Lavern Metzger

LaVern Metzger of Clovis, NM, born January 16, 1937, passed away on February 4th, 2023.  He was the son of Clifton and Lydia (Wegner) Metzger from Bancroft, Nebraska.

Moving to Clovis in 1962, he worked as a mechanic for Rierson Motors before opening his own business in 1990, LaVern’s Auto Service.  He was a strong member of his community supporting a variety of activities.  Most importantly, he was a very spiritual man who served as an elder and Sunday school teacher at Immanuel and St. John’s Lutheran churches.

He was preceded in death by his wives Lois (Koehler) Metzger (1957 - 2004) and Norma (Aucoin) Metzger (2011 - 2018).  He is survived by his seven children: Darla (Jim) Gremel, Fran (Robert) Barclay, Linda (Alan) Kinzer, Rebecca (Phil)Hesterman, Jacki (Dan) McCurley, Connie (Larry) Jones, and Robert Metzger.  Additionally, by his sister Myra Tietze and brothers Kenneth, Lyle, and Marvin Metzger.  He also had 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Friday, February 10th at 200pm CST / 100pm MST.  Viewing is available at Steed-Todd Funeral Home on Thursday, February 9th from 400 - 800pm MST and directly prior to the service.

The family requests donations be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, an organization he felt strongly about.
