Abelino Chavez, 78, of Clovis New Mexico, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. He was born January 10, 1932 in Montecito, New Mexico to Jose Inez and Esmeralda Chavez.
He married Mary L. Urioste, April 21, 1952, in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. He grew up in Juan De Dios, and at 16 years of age, he moved to Clovis. He worked at Swift Packing Plant for 17 years and construction until retirement. The love of his life was his wife, sons and family. He loved spending time at the ranch, hunting, fishing, and music. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He is survived by six sons, Ricky Martha Chavez, Pete Grace Chavez, Gabriel Sara Chavez, Pat Diane Chavez, Abe Lisa Chavez and Dennis Maria Chavez, all of Clovis four brothers, Ernesto Chavez of Rio Pecos Ranch, Johnny, Victor, and Freddy Chavez, all of Clovis four sisters, Julia of Bosque Farms, NM, Rose, Jane, and Tony, all of Clovis 19 grandchildren, 31 greatgrandchildren, and numerous sisterinlaws and brotherinlaws. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary one son, Andy one brother, Alberto one granddaughter, Victorina, and his parents.
Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 15 at Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:00 a.m, Saturday, October 16 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Sotero Sena as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.
Casket bearers will be Elias Chavez, Isaac Chavez, John Anthony Chavez, Pete Santos Chavez, Gabriel Chavez, Donicio R. Chavez, and Ernesto Jr. Chavez. Honorary casket bearers will be all his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
