Annie Lair

Annie Pearl Bowen, age 101, went to be with her Lord May 30, 2016 at Clovis, New Mexico.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 2:00pm at Melrose Baptist Church with Durward Wofford and Kevin Shipp officiating. A burial will follow on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 11:00am (TX time) at Garden of Memories in Sweetwater, TX.

Annie Pearl was born January 13, 1915 in Forest Hill, Texas to Robert William Jackson and Lizzie Mae (Cowell) Jackson. She went to school at Forest Hill, Texas and married Everett Nathan Bowen at a young age. They lived in the surrounding area and farmed, and their four children were born there. They later moved to West Texas in and around Sweetwater, Texas and farmed. Annie Pearl went to school and got her GED and became an assistant manager for a Motts department store in Sweetwater for seventeen years. They were both members of the Baptist Church where he was a deacon and she played the piano. Annie Pearl taught Sunday School for fifty years in her life time. After Everett's death in 1973 following 44 years of marriage, Annie Pearl married Mortie Lair, a childhood schoolmate. They moved to Honey Grove, Texas. They gardened and were very active in church and the community activities and were awarded outstanding citizens in the communities for two years. They played and sang for the Nursing Homes and organizations in the communities. Annie had a love for sewing and she spent her free time sewing for the public. After Mortie's death in 2002 Annie Pearl moved to Melrose, New Mexico to be with her daughter and families. There, she became active in the Melrose Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens where she quilted daily until her health failed her. Annie Pearl was known as Gran-Gran to the ones who knew her and her family. She had 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 71 great-great grandchildren and 1 great, great great granddaughter. Growing flowers, watching birds, and reading the bible was her past time. She was best known for her love of God, love of her family and love for all of those around her.

She is survived by her daughter LaVeeta Knight of Melrose, NM., son Robert Bowen (Bobbie) of Sweetwater, TX and daughter-in-law Sandy Bowen of Hawley, TX. Grandchildren Joey Newman (Nancy) of Abilene, TX; Ricky Newman of San Benito, TX; Johnny Bowen (Kathy) of Roscoe, TX; Roger Bowen (Vicki) of Sweetwater, TX; Deanna Hogg (Jim) of Clovis, NM; Jan Bollinger of Harrisburg, OR; Dwayne Bowen of Sweetwater, TX; Debbie Moorhead (Ronnie) of Apermont, TX; Becky fish (JD) of Raton, NM; Jeff Bowen of Rascoe, TX; grandsons in laws Bill Holloway of Melrose, NM and Riley Sawyers of Sweetwater, TX. She is also survived by step-son James Lair (Patsy) of Rockwell, TX; step-daughter Marta Jane Conyers (Robert) of Honey Grove, TX and sister-in-law Marene Bowen of Prescott, AZ; and numerous nieces and friends survive her.

Annie id preceded in death by her parents, her husband's Everett Bowen and Mortie Lair, her daughter Jean Schuster, her son Loyd Bowen, granddaughters Melinda Holloway and Julie Sawyer, grandson Keith Bowen, son-in-law's Kenneth Reed and J.E Knight, grand-son-in-law James Bollinger and step daughter Patsy Ruth Rogers. Also deceased are her sister Mattie Bailey, brother Jeff Jackson and sister Amy Hancock.

Pallbearers will be Joey Newman, Ricky Newman, Johnny Bowen, Roger Bowen, Dwayne Bowen, Jeff Bowen, Becky Fish, Debbie Moorhead, Deanna Hogg and Jean Bollinger.

The family wants to thank Clovis Healthcare and Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful loving care given to her.
