Arvin Wood

November 23, 1916 — December 2, 2010

Arvin Ben Wood, age 94, of Broadview, NM, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM. He was born to J.O. and Ruth Wood at their home north of Broadview, NM on November 23, 1916.

His first school was New Hope, to which he and his brother, Horace rode a horse. He also attended Bellview School, graduated, and then attended NMHU, ENMU and NMSU. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp because he would rather be in the air than on foot any day

He earned the rank of Personnel Sergeant Major and after the war, he was Base Sergeant Major. While stationed in Bangor, Maine, he met and married Anna Louise Brimmer on October 6, 1944 in Bar Harbor, Maine. Theyve enjoyed 66 years together. After a year they moved back to New Mexico to the family farm. There they were blessed with four children.

He was involved in several community services. He served on Bellview and Grady School Boards, and many years on the ASCS Farm Board. He remained on the family farm until his death. Arvin and Anna were strong supporters of all school activities, and Arvin enjoyed attending games long after all his children and grandchildren were out of school. Arvins favorite job was watching the crops grow, attending the cattle, giving the weather report, and documenting this in a daily journal.
