Barbara Mae Burrage entered into the presence of Christ on Thursday, August 21, 2014, after an extended illness.
Barbara was born in Portales, New Mexico on January 6, 1940. She moved to Post, Texas as a little girl, where she lived through her junior year of high school. Many of those friendships became lifelong friends. Barbara graduated from Portales High School and Eastern New Mexico University. She was a passionate teacher and taught school for 32 years before retiring.
After her retirement, Barbara and Ed moved to Annapolis, Maryland, where Barbara became active with the New Annapolitans, a newcomers organization and became involved in the cultural and civic activities in the community. Retirement was short lived, as Barbara once again found her way to working in the area schools. In 1995, she and Ed moved to Issaquah, Washington where they were involved in church and once again, school. Barbara never could stay away from teaching children Barbara and Ed moved back to Clovis, their true home in 2003.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Edwin Clyde and Nora Alyne Haragan, daughter Misti Everett, and grandson Charlie Martin.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Burrage and one sister, Wynona Ratliff Davis of Albuquerque, and son Todd Burrage. She was a much loved Nana to grandchildren: Danielle Burrage, Ashleigh Singleton and husband Jeff, Cannon Burrage, Gunner Burrage, Randi Everett, Haleigh Goguen, and great grand children, Annastin Singleton and Jace Warner. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who share fond memories of a lifetime shared with Barbara
Services will be at Central Baptist Church on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Portales Cemetery in Portales, New Mexico.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 24, 2014 at SteedTodd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manana Blvd. from 3:00 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbaras name to the New Mexico Baptist Childrens Home at 2200 S Avenue I, Portales, NM 88130.
