Gladys Beatrice Hunt was born in Field, NM April 5, 1924 to ‘Tee' and Ruby Berry. She died on January 30, 2016 in Lubbock Texas. She is survived by a son Coy and his wife Gail of Shallowater, TX, five grandchildren, Sandra Wheeler and her husband Russell of Shallowater, TX, Judy Corbin and her husband Keith of Lubbock, TX, Derek Hunt of Farwell, TX, Darin Hunt of Clovis, NM and David Hunt of Clovis, NM, and by 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a nephew Bill Hancock and his wife Lisa of Broken Arrow, OK and a niece Jean Jackson and her husband Rick of Hereford, TX, and by 8 cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband W. F. (Spider) Hunt ('77), a son Doyle Hunt ('89), her parents ‘Tee' ('62) and Ruby Berry ('85), and by three sisters, Oletta Hancock ('93), Elsie Berry (‘07), and Tressie Berry (‘10).
She grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Field high school in 1943. She became a Christian at an early age and lived a dedicated Christian life until the time of her death. She was married to "Spider" Hunt on June 20, 1944. She worked in the Melrose School's Lunchroom for 8 years, then drove a bus for the Melrose School system for 32 years. She lived on the family farm northwest of Melrose from 1949 to 1988 when she bought a house in Melrose and moved to town. She lived there until Sept 2014 when declining health made it necessary for her to move to Shallowater to live with Coy and Gail.
She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Services will be held on February 6 at 10:00 AM at the Melrose Church of Christ. Conducting the service will be William Eudy and Coy Hunt. Pall bearers will be grandsons Derek Hunt, Darin Hunt, David Hunt, Alex Wheeler, and Tyler Corbin, and grand sons-in-law Russell Wheeler and Keith Corbin. Burial will be at the Melrose cemetery.
