Bette-Jane Goodwin

Bette-Jane W. Goodwin, 84, of Clovis, NM, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Retirement Ranch. She was born August 19, 1924 in Trenton, NJ. Her parents were LTC Alvin T Wilson, Sr. and Jane Hatton Wilson.

As a military dependent, she attended five grammar schools, five high schools, and five colleges. She earned a Bachelor of Science Chemistry from Auburn University, Bachelor of Arts Speech, and a Master of Arts Communication from ENMU.

As a volunteer, she was president for 14 clubs. Her volunteer work included the organizations: BPO Does President, District President, Life time member, Cattle Capital Cowbells President, AAUW, Daughters of the Nile, American Legion Auxiliary, Clovis Chamber of Commerce, Enchantra Garden Club, Republican Party, Planning and Zoning, and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

At the age of 10, she joined the Girls Scouts and continued to volunteer through her daughter's scouting years. Because of her many devoted years, she was promoted to the Sangre de Cristo State Council.

She served as an Elder for the Presbyterian Church, on the Presbyterian Council, Westminster Guild, and the original board for Camp Chimney Springs.

She was on the Red Cross board, earned her Water Safety Instructor certificate, and taught swimming lessons for 30 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancijane Goodwin of Clovis; 1 grandson, CAPT David C. Hilling Julie of Ft. Benning, GA; 1 granddaughter, Janemarie Hilling of Clovis; 1 great grandson, Christopher Hilling of Ft. Benning, GA and brother, LTC Ret. Alvin T. Wilson Jr. Emma of Columbus, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. N. Scott King and Rev. Lance Clemmons officiating. The casket will be closed at the service. Friends may call at the funeral home. Cremation will take place after the service.
