Betty Jean Cumpton, 77 of Texico, NM, passed away January 26, 2015.
Betty was born to Oscar and Bessie Stelzig, October 4, 1937 in Clovis, NM. She grew up in Progress, TX. Betty moved to Texico in the '80. She opened The Burger Barn on the the east side of Texico. When The Burger Barn closed Betty then opened BJ Diner.
Betty had a heart for all children. She was an amazing lady. Around Thanksgiving and Christmas she would prepare turkey dinners to sale so needy children could have a Christmas. All of the proceeds she would make for the dinners would go to community churches to help these children.
She loved her God and family. Betty had numerous people that she loved and adopted as part of her own family. She will be greatly missed.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 son, 2 sisters, and 4 brothers.
Betty is survived by 3 sons, 1 daughter, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 17 great great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Hickerson, Bill Cumpton, Quentin Overholt, Christian Arnold Beevers, Tom Cumpton, Robert Cumpton, and Jordy Hawking. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rylan Hawkin, Zachary Overholt, and all her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Steed Todd Funeral Home in Clovis, NM, Thursday January 29, 2015, from 8 am to 8 pm. Funeral Service for Betty will be Friday January 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm in Clovis, NM in the Steed Todd Chapel. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to First Baptist Chuch of Texico, NM in Memory of Betty Cumpton.
