Betty Jo Johnson 82, born August 24, 1927 in Dexter NM, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in San Angelo, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. Red Johnson, parents, Ewin and Willie Mae Burrows, sister, Paula Hendrix and brothers, Bill E. and Jimmy E. Burrows.
Betty is survived by her brother, Max Burrows and wife, Loueva, of FlowerMound, TX, J.E.'s daughter Petra Cantrell and husband, John, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and numerous nieces and nephews. In the final weeks of life, she was lovingly cared for by sister-in-law, Pat Burrows and daughter, Brenda of San Angelo, TX.
After retiring from Motorola in Chicago, IL, Betty returned home to Clovis in the the early 1970s. A self taught artist with an amazing eye for detail, Betty delighted in the creative process of painting until the progression of macular degeneration made painting no longer possible.
Betty was a tireless and successful advocate for animal rights and care and devoted herself to insuring the humane treatment of domestic pets. Her 2 dogs, Cindi and Pepe, survive her.
A memorial graveside service was held at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with Steed-Todd Funeral Home in charge of arrangements and Skip Clark officiating.
