George E. Bill Nance, 79, of Clovis, N. M., died Wed., Dec. 13, 2006, at his home. He was born May 10, 1927 in Forrest, N. M., to George William and Fannie Nance.
Bill married Mozelle Hunton on Nov. 6, 1948, in Forrest. They were married 44 years before she passed away.
He later married Lois Durbin on April 20, 1995 in Clovis, N. M.
Bill was baptized into the Baptist faith in a dirt tank at Forrest. After his fathers death, when Bill was only nine, he started helping his mother run the family grocery store and stayed out of school on Fridays to test the cream and bring it to Clovis.
Bill spent his life in the construction industry trade as a carpenter, contractor, and later as a building inspector for the State of New Mexico and Cities of Clovis and Portales. He had a significant part in the construction of several landmarks in the Clovis area.
Bill served on the first board of the Building Contractors Association of Clovis. He was also a board member of the YMCA and the Clovis Memorial Hospital. He was a deacon at Central Baptist Church in Clovis for over 50 years. More recently, he had joined Parkland Baptist Church.
In his later years, when he could not drive, Lois drove him to all the construction sites in town so he could look at them. He enjoyed going on trips, listening to gospel music and eating at Leals every Friday night.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lois, of the home, one son Darrel Nance, of Tijeras, N. M., and one daughter Judy Chandler Rick, of Clovis, N. M.; three grandchildren, Erin Keller Troy of Canyon, Tex., Amara Nance of Palo Alto, Calif., and Jacob Nance Taylour of Albuquerque, N. M.; two greatshy; grandchildren, Tatum Keller and Gunner Nance; one brother John Nance Mavis, of Marion, Iowa, one sister, Mary Sours Charles of Forrest, N. M., numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by one stepdaughter Kim Rudloff Rick of Scott Air Force Base, Ill. and two stepsons Bruce Durbin Cheryl of Carlsbad, Calif. and Pastor Paul Durbin Patty of Devils Lake, N. D.; 7 step grandchildren and his father-in-law Lawrence Meland of Spear Fish, S. D.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Baptist Childrens Home in Portales, N. M.
