alignjustify Billy Vinson Shorty Hughes, 93, died Monday, June 11, 2007 at the Farwell Convalescent Center. He was born on September 28, 1913 in Dennison, Texas to Joe V. Hughes and Rosemary Mitchell Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a retired business man with many interesting occupations: he worked in the Carbon Black Plant in Pampa, the shipyards in Berkley, CA, owned a peach orchard in Weatherford, a filling stationcaf in Lariat, and farmed in that area for a few years. He opened Hughes Auto Parts in Farwell in 1957. He later purchased an insurance agency, operated a car bailercompress and was a salesman for Montgomery Wards. During his later years he owned coin operated laundries in Farwell, Bovina, Muleshoe and Littlefield. He was active in the Senior Citizens Center in Clovis and Portales. He won many medals in the Senior Olympics.
alignjustify He is survived by one son Joe Gwen Hughes of Farwell; one daughter, Jeanette Don Freiling of San Antonio; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Hughes of Clovis; one sister, Sybil Scott; three brothers, Clifton, Everette and Russell, all of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Kevin Hughes Suzan, Russ Freiling Tammy, Tim Hughes Pattye, Rynn Freiling, Amy Roberts Todd, Andy Pat Hughes Amber, Lokeene Dallas John, Reagan Freiling and Keith Shaw Melinda. Mr. Hughes had sixteen great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
alignjustify He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Dudley, one sister Beulah and one brother, Clyde.
alignjustify Memorial Contributions may be made to the Farwell Convalescent Center Auxillary, Box 974, Farwell, Texas 79325 or a memorial of your choice.
alignjustify Memorial services will be held at the Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell on Thursday at 10:00 am CST and will be conducted by Don Freiling, assisted by Todd Roberts. The Pall Bearers will be the grandchildren.
