Robert Lee "Bob" Johnson, age 90, entered into eternal rest on December 4, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 13, 1928 to the home of Bill and Lillie Johnson of Claud, NM.
Bob helped support his mother working at Clay Skeen's Auto Repair Shop before and after school while he was in junior high school. When Bob was 11 years old, he began to work on farms during the summer, for 12 hours a day for $1.00. His first school was in Claud, NM but he graduated from Clovis High School. Bob volunteered for Army services and served in Korea until March of 1948. He then went to work deep-breaking ground in Morton, TX until 1950, when he began farming for Langdon Skarda. In 1953, Bob married Lucille Wilson, then rented land from Grady Tucker and began farming with discarded equipment which he acquired and repaired. He helped others with irrigation and machinery problems. Bob also built a "clod-buster", a grain-trailer for semi-trucks and guides which ran tractors without a driver.
Bob was baptized in the Advent Christian Church in 1956 and served several positions there. He became a pilot and flew many miles serving the church and visiting family. Bob and Lucille square-danced with the Y-Squares Club and he was in a bowling league. Bob and one carpenter built the home where he and Lucille lived for more than 65 years.
Preceding his death are his brothers, George W. and Jesse T. He leaves behind his loving wife, Lucille of the home; daughters, Frances Esterbrook and Linda (Lynwood) Taylor; son, Bill (Sue) Adams; 8 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 8 great great-grandchildren; a sister, Florene Fulgham; and cousins, Dona Teague and Dorsie May Bryant.
Gravesides services will be held on Thursday, December 6th at 11:00am at Lawn Haven Memorial Garden Cemetery.
