Bob G. Stout passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, at his home in Amarillo. He was born in 1944 to Maggie Fryar and Victor Stout. He attended elementary school in Clovis and junior high in Causey and Portales. He excelled in track and basketball during his high school years, which were spent in Des Moines and Clovis.
Bob attended university at UNM, WTSU, and ENMU, graduating with a B.S. in Psychology and Elementary Education. He went on to receive an M.A. in Psychology and Personnel Services from ENMU. His doctoral and postshy;doctoral work in Psychology, Counseling and Guidance were done at University of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Stout's career included teaching and counseling for Clovis Public Schools and Colby Community College. Following his post doctoral internship, he moved to Amarillo where he lived until his death. During his twenty-eight years in Amarillo, he was Associate Director at WTSU Counseling and Testing Center, co-founder of First Step Adult Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program, was in private practice for 17 years, did extensive consulting, and worked at hospitals and prisons in the area.
The desire to help others was a driving force in Bob's life. His friends tell many stories about his altruism. Photography, music and reading were three of Bob's favorite pastimes, but his loved ones knew him as an extraordinarily thoughtful and kind person, who liked finding a special gift to fit each person perfectly.
Bob is survived by his father, Victor, and his sister Linda Dean Wolford, who reside in Grand Junction, CO. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maggie.
Burial has taken place at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, NM. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be sent to American Cancer Society. An informal celebration of Bobs life is planned at 5:30 p.m., May 12 at Polk Street Methodist Church in Amarillo.
