Bonnie Jean Battles, 78, died Sunday, January 22, at her home in Melrose, New Mexico. She was born on May 21, 1927 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Walter and Effie May Williams.brbrBonnie was a very caring person, opening her home to the many cats and dogs who she loved so dearly. She owned and operated an antique store in Melrose for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo and was a member of the Church of Christ in Melrose.brbrPreceding her in death was her husband Homer Battles, her parents, two brothers, Rex and Roy Williams, and sisters Isabell Hawkens, Rosella Conroy, Dolly Drussell and infant sisters June and Jewel. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved cats and dogs which she cared for deeply.brbrA memorial service is cheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Melrose on Friday, January 27, 2006. There will be no visitation as Mrs. Battles doanted her body to the University of New Mexico Medical and Science Department.
