Callie Jean Blackard, 94, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at HOME at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis, NM. She was born in a farmhouse between Tahoka and Brownfield, TX on May 3, 1923. Callie is preceded in death by her husband, Dolphus Randolph Blackard; parents Callie Dura and Newton Milton Barham, Sr; and brothers Billy Newton and John Garner Barham.
"Granny Jean", as she was so affectionately called, is survived by three children: Jackie and Mac Bartee of Bossier City, LA, Bill and Marilyn Blackard of Clovis, NM, Tommy Blackard and David Jaramillo of Havasu Lake, CA; sister Hattie Jo Curry of Hale Center, TX; and brother NM Barham, Jr and Bobbie of Livingston, TX. Granny Jean has seven grandchildren whom she loved dearly, each one being her favorite; Margie and Jason Thomas of Pinehurst, NC, Brian and Anna Bartee of Lorton, VA, David and Andrea Bartee of Temple, TX, Stephanie and Richard Shaw of Clovis, NM, Wesley and Cadi Blackard of West Richland, WA, Laura and Matt Becker of Imperial Beach, CA, and Sheree Blackard of Rio Rancho, NM. Each of her grandchildren traveled from all corners of the United States for one more time of making memories with their precious grandmother during those last weeks of her life here on earth, for which we are truly grateful. Granny Jean's family extends to 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and includes her "adopted" family of friends and acquaintances.
Granny Jean loved everyone and everyone loved her. Her last three years was spent at her "HOME" at the Retirement Ranch where she was so lovingly and tenderly cared for. Words cannot express our appreciation and gratitude to each and every one of the staff members and residents at the Ranch for their never-ending love and care.
Funeral services will held at 10:00am Tuesday July 18, 2017 at the 21st Church of Christ, 1720 W. 21st Street, Clovis, NM. Private interment will take place following the service at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
