Carl W. Meredith, 88, of Melrose, New Mexico, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis, New Mexico. He was born January 10, 1918 in Direct, Texas to Charlie and Minnie Harges Meredith.
He married Erma Watterson February 13, 1938 in Telephone, Texas. He had farmed and ranched in the Melrose area since 1938. He loved his work, going to the elevator to play dominos, and horse racing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Melrose.
He is survived by his wife Erma Meredith of the home in Melrose; 1 daughter, Jan Runyan Wes of Roswell, New Mexico; 1 son, Jamey Meredith Doreen of Houston, Texas and 3 grandchildren, Zane Runyan, James Meredith and Joyce Meredith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Mary Meredith and 5 brothers, James, L. C., Guy and Jack Meredith and Glen Ellard
Casket bearers will be Jimmy Smith, Butch Smith, Jerry Woods, Montey Welsh, Johnny Pack, Cesareo Alcala, Jeff Reed and Dr. James B. Moss III. Honorary casket bearers will be Virgil Leeder, Dr. James B. Moss, Clifford Biggers, Don Hightower and Bruce Murphy.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Melrose with Rev. Danny Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at the Melrose Cemetery.
