Carliss Woods

Our beloved Carliss Dale Woods, "Pops", was called home with our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 7 2016, at Farwell Care and Rehab Center on the day before his 86th birthday.

Graveside services will be held on Monday April 11th, 2016 at Oklahoma Lane Cemetery at 2:00 pm Central time; 1:00 pm Mountain Standard Time.

Carliss was born April 8, 1930 in Purcell, Oklahoma to Will and Pearl Woods.

He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Irene Hardage on February 11th, 1956 in Farwell TX, Where they raised their three children, Mike, Sheryl and David.

Carliss was a carefree, hard working, and fun loving man, who was full of life. His contagious spirit always made him a joy to be around. You couldn't beat him in a card game. He loved bingo, word games, peanut M&M's and sneaking candy to grandchildren and nurses.

Carliss was an exceptional athlete. He loved football and baseball. He was a member of the Purcell High School all century team where he played defensive back in 1948. He then went on to join the Oklahoma Sooners roster, as a young man. Carliss served in the US Army for 8 years. After moving to Farwell, TX , he joined the Clovis Pioneers playing semi-pro baseball. He was a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years for Parmer County. He was a member of FBC Farwell.

He his proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene, his sister Bernice, brothers, Jack and Eugene. He is survived by his three children, Mike (Leigh Ann) Woods, of Farwell, Sheryl (Greg) Taylor, of Overland Park, Kansas and David (Adriana) Woods, of Friona TX. 7 grandchildren, Brock (Cassie) Taylor, Matt (Amy) Taylor, Shara (Basil) Sherman, Chelsi Woods, Mckinzi (Matthew) Williams, Connor Woods and Dallin Woods and 10 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Steed Todd Funeral home.
