Charles Carlton Dodson, of Clovis, passed away on July 29, 2015 at his residence.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, August 2 at 2 pm at Steed Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Gene Christian officiating. A private internment will be held at a later date at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Charles was born September 8, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles Emmett Dodson and Alice Arletta Marshall Dodson. He married Barbara Ellen Heacock on April 13, 1957 in Monahans, TX. They were married 58 years.
Charles served in the United States Air Force from May 1954 to October 1968, including a tour in Vietnam. Upon retirement he brought his family to Clovis. In 1969 he went to work for Southern Union Gas Company (PNM) in several positions, eventually retiring in Portales as the manager in 1992. He and Barbara then returned to Clovis where they joined Central Baptist Church.
Charles was quiet and unassuming, he never boasted and rarely vocalized his opinions or beliefs and so his Christian faith was, more often than not, witnessed in his honesty, his faithfulness, kindness and willingness to bend over backwards to help anyone he saw in need; always willing to go the extra mile. He never complained even when he was in pain. He never had a bad thing to say about others and he could always be counted on to help if you needed him. Charles was like a pillar supporting a bridge or building and his presence is going to be missed.
Charles enjoyed involvement in his children and grandchildren's lives; attending activities, going fishing, camping, and hunting. He enjoyed arrowhead hunting, tennis, bowling, and metal detecting and was an active participant in the Senior Olympics.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marticia Diaz.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the family home; children Sherry (Gene) Christian of Brownwood, TX, Kathy Ollom of Peoria, AZ, David Dodson of Denver, CO, and Debra (Ronny) Van of Beach City, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Aaron and Cade Christian, Kyra (Evan) Owen, K'Lee Ollom, Tamra (Jason) Harris, Brielle Eskridge and Briley Van and great grandchildren Eden and Carter Owen. He is also survived by his sisters Loretta (Melvin) Simmons, Becky (John) Foreman, Bernice Dodson, Bobby Helen (Roland) Rush and brothers Henry Diaz, Dee Lynn (Wanda) Dodson, and Clifton (Pinkie) McFarlin.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Steed-Todd Funeral Home and Crematory, 800 E Manana Blvd, Clovis, New Mexico (575) 763-5541.
