Charles Williams

Charles J. Williams, 83, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. He was born February 12, 1926 to Glen Lillie Tunnell Williams.

Charles joined the Navy after his 18th birthday and had to leave for boot camp right after graduation. December 5, 1944 he married his high school sweetheart, May Lea Morse at her parent's home east of Grady. Their first home was New London, Connecticut where he trained for the Submarine Service. He served in the Philippines until 1946 when he returned to Grady to farm. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, The Men's Bible Class, and Farm Bureau. He served on the ASCS Curry County Committee, Farmers Coop Elevator Board and Grady School Board.

Charles was a devoted husband for 63 years, loving father, wonderful grandfather. He is survived by 3 children, David Williams Connie of Clovis, Jim Williams DeDe of Buena Vista, Colorado, Deborah Williams of Clovis; 8 grandchildren, Amanda Mitchell Dave of Farwell, Texas, Heather Ellis Greg and Michael Williams all of Longmont, Colorado, Laurel Dibble Tom of Los Angeles, California, Rob Williams Kami of Buena Vista, Colorado, Jennifer Williams of Clovis, Dayna Williams and Todd Williams Adrienne all of Plano, TX; 8 great-grandchildren, Lydia, John, and Luke Mitchell, Alli, Reese, Jackson, and Taylor Williams, and Sophie Dibble; sisters JoAnn Billy Neil Williams, Wanda Horton, and sister-in-law Naomi Williams, all of Clovis, and a brother-shy;in-law, Earl Blackwell of Dallas, TX; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Jack Williams and James Williams; his sister, Glenda Blackwell, and a great granddaughter, Lucy Dibble.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June, 30 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Clovis, NM with Rev. Harry Riser officiating.
