Cleo Carpenter, 81, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at his home in Clovis. He was born July 19, 1926 in Clovis to John Otis and Mary Inez Maxwell Carpenter.
He was a resident of Clovis all of his life and graduated from Clovis High School in 1944. He married Blanche Eller August 10, 1946 in Clovis. He worked as a salesman for Gateway Auto Company and later owned and operated Carpenter Auto Sales and Carpenter Gray Tire Appliance Store. He then worked for Durabuilt Steel Building as a salesman for 15 years before his retirement. He was a City Commissioner for 12 years and was on the Plains Regional Medical Center Board for over 20 years. He was very active in the Sertoma Club. For several years, on the empty lot next door to his house, he had a live nativity scene. He was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Clovis and the Clovis Elks Lodge. He loved to hunt and fish and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by 1 son, Mark Carpenter Diane of Clovis; 2 daughters, Pam Carpenter of Albuquerque and Carol Koch Kip of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Julie Howell John, Kevin Henson, Kyle Henson, Brian Carpenter Mandy, Kris Koch, Ian Koch and Zach Koch; great grandchildren, Jacob Hannah Howell and Lucas Cleo Carpenter; 1 brother, Lamoyne Carpenter Pat of Capitan, New Mexico; 3 sisters-in-law, Gladys, Betty Lavonia and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 3 brothers, Harold, Bud and Rex; 1 sister, Nellie Maberry and brother-in-law, Lawrence.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2007 at Kingswood United Methodist Church with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Childrens Home in Bethel, New Mexico.
