Clifford Deon Dodd, 67 of Melrose, NM passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11 at SteedTodd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manana, in Clovis. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12th at the Melrose Church of Christ with Grady Bright and Bob Bennett officiating. Casket bearers will be Tommy Hamar, John Stallard, Eric Rush, Larry Don Rush, Jack Draper, Jacky Gorden, Frank Glover and Jeff Ashley. Honorary casket bearers will be the Melrose High School Class of 1961, and all of Deons friends and neighbors. Burial will follow at Melrose Cemetery.
Deon was born February 6, 1943 to Bill and Mary Dodd in Clovis, NM. Deon lived his entire life northwest of Melrose. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1961. While attending Eastern New Mexico University, he met the love of his life Glenda Ann Zachry. The two were married August 27, 1965 in Roy, NM. After graduating from New Mexico State University, with a bachelors degree in Animal Science in 1967, they returned to Melrose to farm, ranch, and begin their family. Deon always considered it a blessing to live and raise a family in the same community where he grew up. He strove to instill in his two sons the value in a name, the importance of lending a helping hand to those in need, and the meaning of doing good to others. Deon believed that God is faithful and that hard work always prevails. He served on the Curry County Fair Board for ten years and was a deacon for the Melrose Church of Christ for 40 years. He was a dedicated Christian, husband, father, Depa, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Zachry Dodd two sons, Troy and Terry Dodd of Hereford, TX and Burl and Jana Dodd of Floyd, NM five grandchildren, Trace and Darcy Dodd of Hereford, TX, Emma, Alex, and Abby Moyer of Floyd, NM. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Dodd of Melrose one brother, Dennis and Dena Dodd of Melrose and one sister, Lyndal Fahrlender of Clovis, NM and many other family members and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his father Bill Dodd.
