Dale L. Nation, 72 of Clovis, passed away at his home on Monday, March 16th and returned to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born September 22, 1936 in Clovis, New Mexico to Daniel Boone and Lillie Mae Nation. Dale entered the U.S. Navy on June 23, 1954 and was stationed in San Diego, California and Brimerton, Washington. He served on the USS Essex. He was honorably discharged on September 20, 1957. After returning to Clovis Dale worked for Waffle Platter and Pepsi Cola before entering Barber school in 1958 and finishing in 1959. He cut hair in Clovis while employed with Carl Baker, and later buying the shop. He owned and operated Westgate Barber Shop until his retirement. He married Ann Carney on November 9, 1984 in Clovis; they have been married for twenty four years. They both enjoyed dancing and won many contests together. He also enjoyed playing guitar, fishing and camping at Conchas Lake, woodworking, drinking coffee with his friends, and most of all being with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Ann Nation of the home; two daughters Vickie Lynn Heminger from the union of his first marriage to Violet, and Terri Leigh Nation Steve from the union of his second marriage to Lee Nora Hamlett; one step-daughter Becky McKittrick Jason of Omaha, Nebraska. Eight grandchildren Valerie, Candy, Erica, Bobby, of Florida, Shannon Cato of Clovis, Tristan Hays of Albuquerque, Bryce Fillpot of Leveland, Texas, and Baron Fillpot of Clovis; two step grandchildren Ryan and Matthew McKittrick; seven great grandchildren Savannah, Taylor, Ryan, Mendy, Chailee of Florida, Jadis and Josiah Cato of Clovis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Arleigh Nation and his wife Maxine, Thurman Nation and his wife Marie, David Nation, one sister Imogene Houston and her husband Clyde, and one nephew Mark Nation.
Services will be Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Steed-Todd Chapel with Rev. Joel Horne officiating. Burial will follow at the Grady Cemetery in Grady, New Mexico. Pallbearers will be Tristan Hays, Bryce Fillpot, Baron Fillpot, Steve Yurasek, Bob Norris, and Larry Porter. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his longtime friends and customers. Mr. Nation will be available for viewing at the funeral home but the casket will remain closed for services.
