Della Mae Kirkland, 97, of Farwell, Texas, died Sunday, November 5, 2006 at Farwell Convalescent Center in Farwell, Texas. She was born October 4, 1909 in Quail, Texas to E. J. and Bessie Callaway.
She married J. D. Kirkland Sr. July 15, 1928 in Sudan, Texas. She was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. She loved to sew especially for her family. She quilted, crocheted and all kinds of crafts. She also loved gardening and always had a beautiful yard. She even trimmed her own trees. She liked to fish and she enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by sons, Walter Kirkland Ann of Plattsburg, Missouri, Bill Kirkland Judy of Amarillo, Texas, Bob Kirkland Lorrena of Plattsburg, Missouri; daughter, Alice Dosher Vane of Farwell, Texas; 3 daughters-in-law, Jorene Kirkland of Amarillo, Texas, Wanda Kirkland of Lubbock, Texas and Sue Kirkland of Farwell, Texas; 2 sisters-in-law, Beaulah Callaway and Bernyce Callaway; 25 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J. D. Kirkland Sr.; sons, J. D. Kirkland Jr., Jeral Kirkland and Jack Kirkland; grandson, Mike Kirkland; great grandson, Mathew Kirkland; siblings, Sidney Callaway, E. J. Callaway Jr., Ted Callaway, Ocie Callaway, Ruth Thomas Ruby Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. CST Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell, Texas with Pastor Kyle Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford, Texas.
