Della Marie Franklin Mitchell, 89, of Clovis, N.M., passed away on February 12, 2017, at her home at Wheatfields Senior Living Community in Clovis.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Steed-Todd Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Grand at Gidding streets, in Clovis with her grandson, Caleb Mitchell, officiating and son Gary Mitchell assisting. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home.
Della was born at House, N.M., to Forrest Guy Franklin and Buna Smith on May 19, 1927. She attended school in House and graduated from House High School. She married her high school sweetheart, W. Y. Mitchell Jr., after he returned from fighting with the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany during World War II. They married on Della's birthday just after she graduated from high school on May 19, 1946.
She was primarily a wife, mother and homemaker to her family, but she also worked part-time as a school bus driver for Clovis schools and at times in retail sales at Allene's Gift Shop and The Blue Room. A woman of strong faith, Della was always active in her church, serving as Sunday school teacher, children's worker, Vacation Bible School, and the Women's Missionary Union. At the time of her passing, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Clovis. She was faithful to her family, her church and her Lord.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Irene Franklin, Ruth Lomas, and Betty Houston.
Della is survived by her husband of 70 years, W.Y. Mitchell; two sons, Gary (Judy) Mitchell of Clovis, and Leon (Angie) Mitchell of Borger, Texas; four grandchildren, Kimberly Campbell, Kristen (Travis) Guthrie, Mara (Jessie) Flores, and Caleb (Leah) Mitchell; and 13 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Alaina, Andrea, Asher, Aubrey, Estefan, Hope, Landry, Mitchell, Nathan, Selah, Thomas, and Will.
Pallbearers will be Travis Guthrie, Jessie Flores, Thomas Andrews, Mitchell Campbell, Will Mitchell, and Nathan Flores.
Honorary pallbearers will be all great-grandchildren.
