Delton Conway Carley, passed away on April 12,2022 in Portales, NM

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday April 15, 2022, at University Baptist Church with Bro. Steve Smith of University Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow on a later date at the Portales Cemetery. Arrangements are by Steed Todd. Conway was born in Dickens County, Texas to Dannie Dexter and Annie Laura Phelps Carley on January 25, 1935. He graduated from Floyd High School, Floyd, NM. He married Loretta Selman on June 8, 1956, at Bethel Baptist Church. After 2 years of service in the Army he worked at R.B. Allen Lumber Co. for 7 years until it closed then worked at Plains Builders Supply for 16 years until closed after that was a Correction Officer at the Portales Jail for 14 years. Retiring in 1997. He was a faithful member of University Baptist Church filling in as janitor when needed if he was able.

Conway is preceded in death by a daughter Debra Kay, parents Dannie and Laura Carley, brothers Dexter and Kenneth Carley.

Conway is survived by his wife Loretta of 65 years, son Jimmy Carley of Socorro, NM. Brother Joe Tom Carley of Fort Worth, Texas, Grandsons Chad Carley of Huntingtown, MD and Jason Carley of Hollywood, MD, and two great grandsons Everett Carley & Quentin Rogow of MD, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Alva Littlejohn, Harry Littlejohn, Eddie Selman, Ronnie Selman, John King and Timothy Smith.

Memorials may be given to Cystic Fibroses Foundation or Baptist Children’s Home. The family of Conway wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the hospice workers and our Church family.
