Dicky Martin

d. July 13, 2010

Dicky L. Martin, born Feb. 22, 1950 in Clovis New Mexico, died on July 13, 2010, but we remember him for all that fell in between. Dicky was the embodiment of the word SERVICE. He gave service to his God, in the form of joyful discipleship, service to his family through boundless love, service to his customers through countless hours of labor supporting the irrigation company founded by his father, and carried on with his sons. He provided service to the community through many ways, as a lay minister at West Side Church of Christ, and by his involvement with the foster care program in Clovis. He was also active in the local Emmaus Community.

Poppy, as he was called by most everyone who knew him, was a graduate of Clovis High School, and lived in Clovis his entire life. He married Barbara Taylor on October 6, 1968. She was a city girl, and he was the farm boy with muddy boots. Barbara recalls that as soon as the honeymoon was over, it was sink or swim with Dickys country lifestyle. They were best friends, and they enjoyed a marriage that lasted 42 years. This marriage led to a thriving and ever expanding family. Dicky and Barbara had five children, Daryl, Dennis, Dustin, Tommy, and Maggie. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his father Albert, Daryl and his wife Dedra, Dennis and his wife Lexee, Dustin and his wife Sandra, Tommy, Maggie, as well as grandchildren Jordan, Jacoby, Jaydan, Hailey, Nash, Autumn, Aspyn, Wyatt, Micajah sister Dixi Burnett and her husband Roy, with children Tayci and Cutter One special brother Michael Aragon brotherinlaw Charles Taylor, and sistersinlaw Bea Wesson and husband Nolan, Charlotte Nunn and husband Jack. Dicky was preceded in death by his mother Sue Martin.

Music was a passion that he enjoyed from the time he was in the high school choir. Those who knew him admired his singing voice, a gift widely praised, and one he wasnt afraid to share. Dicky also enjoyed spending time bench rest shooting.

Its hard to describe a man with indescribable character. He was committed to anything he was involved in, whether it was giving a Sunday sermon, or helping his customers solve their problems. He easily formed longlasting relationships with the people he came in contact with, and will be missed by even the most brief acquaintances. 5 yearold grandson Nash was quoted giving us the perfect measure of Dicky Martin when he simply said, Poppy was a good man.
