Donald P-Bear Bruce Crook, life-long resident of Clovis passed away on Monday, June 16, 2008 at the age of 74.
He was born to Bruce Olin Crook and Sallie Mae McCauley Crook on January 17, 1934 in Clovis. He was raised in Clovis and graduated from Clovis High School. As a young adult, he worked for the Railroad, and later became a licensed Electrician. He was a member of the IBEW, and owned Don Crook Electric, before retiring. He was an avid supporter of scouting and served as Scout Master for 17 years and original member of the Bear Patrol. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Clovis.
P-Bears greatest delight was being with his family and especially the children. He also delighted in his almost daily outing to Walmart where he always ran across a few friends to visit with.
He was preceded in death by his parents Buck and Sallie Mae Crook, his brother Bill Crook, and great granddaughter AnnaKay Justice, and nephew, Bruce Crook.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Venita Jones Crook; 2 sons: Rex and wife Marsha, of Los Alamos and Max and wife Susan, of Ada, Oklahoma; and daughter Donna and husband Bill Smith of Clovis; 8 grand children: Amy Crook Justice and husband Jay of Los Alamos, Kay Crook Chinn and husband John of El Paso, Texas; Danielle Smith Conley and husband Josh of Haslet, Texas and Erika Smith Fury and husband John of Clovis, Megan, Emily, Dylan and Caleb Crook of Ada, Oklahoma and 5 great grandchildren: Ashlee, Jamie and Jessica Justice of Los Alamos, Morgan Fury of Clovis, and Kye-William Conley of Haslet, Texas. He is also survived by Jerry Crook and wife Anna of Clovis and numerous other cousins.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Portales Cemetery, in Portales, NM. Rev. Alan McAlister and Rev. Dick Ross will officiate.
