Don Williams

Donald Don Harold Williams, 81, died on March 18, 2010 in Canyon, Texas.

Services will be at 10:00 am CDT on Monday March 22 at the Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell, Texas, with the Reverend Randall Partin officiating and the Reverend David Green assisting. Burial will follow in Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery.

Don was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on December 8, 1928 to Willie and Bonnie Williams. He attended Texas Tech University and then served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1953.

He married Maxine Rae Ford on July 23, 1951 in Fairbanks, Alaska. They returned to Farwell, Texas, where he farmed. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine in 1987, and married Elizabeth Yeary Phillips in 1988. She preceded him in death in 2007. His sister, Peggy Williams Hargrove, also preceded him in death in 2007.

Don loved his community very much, and was active in many community organizations, serving in a variety of positions on various boards and committees. He was a man of integrity, and he left the world a richer place through his generosity and love.

Survivors include his daughter, Deana Welling of Canyon his son, Clay Williams and his partner David Groff of New York City his granddaughters Lacy Welling of Amarillo and Anna Welling of Denton his grandsons Don Welling of Houston and Will Welling of Canyon his stepdaughters Cindy Carthel and her husband Don, and Penny Phillips, all of Amarillo his stepson Thad Phillips of Amarillo two stepgrandchildren, Courtney Burgoon and her husband Andrew of Canyon and Colby Carthel and his wife Sarah, also of Canyon and three stepgreatgrandchildren Kyler, Kylie, and Kelton Burgoon of Canyon.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Burgoon, Colby Carthel, Don Carthel, Doug Ford, Steve Ford, Brett Hargrove, Greg Hargrove, and Kevin Hargrove. Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Anderson, Charles Aycock, Don Bonner, Dom Ford, Don Ford, Max Ford, Elmer Hargrove, and Bert Williams

The family suggests memorials to the Maxine Williams Memorial Scholarship fund at the Farwell Independent School District, P.O. Box F, Farwell, TX 79325.
