Doris Marie Qualls Bailey, 95, passed away Monday, January 18th, 2021, in her home at Wheatfields Assisted Living, in Clovis, New Mexico. She spent her last days surrounded by her children and those that love her.

Doris was born to Hubert Silas Qualls and Ellen Eunice White Qualls, on February 23rd, 1925 in Clovis, NM. She lived her entire life in the Ranchvale Area. She was a pivotal member of the Ranchvale community where she worked the land beside her husband and family for many years. Doris married George Elwin Bailey on December 13th, 1941, just 6 days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. At the age of 16, she set up housekeeping in a one room house. She saw many things in her lifetime including The Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, World War II. Doris enjoyed serving and worshipping at the Ranchvale Baptist Church. Doris was also a professional seamstress. She loved sewing for her family, she has sewn numerous Easter dresses for her daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters, and on more than one occasion bridesmaids' dresses, and wedding gowns. She has sewn and pieced together more than 50 quilts for her family over the years. She gardened and canned thousands of jars of food in her lifetime and jumped at every chance to help teach her children and grandchildren these ways. She loved to work in her yard, mowing and weeding into her 90s. She could grow anything, her favorite plant to have on her porch was geraniums and always tomatoes growing beautifully in her garden. She made sure and passed on her love of sewing, crafting, and gardening to her two daughters. And shared her bounties with all her family.
