Douglas "Doug" Floyd Mote

April 28, 1945 — September 22, 2021

Broadview & Clovis, New Mexico

Douglas Floyd Mote was born on April 28, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas to Paul Hobart Mote and Mildred O. Mote.

Growing up in Tucumcari and Broadview, Doug could be found playing little league, rough housing with his brothers, or tinkering with anything he could try to fix. Eventually, Doug graduated from Grady High School and moved on to also graduate college in Colorado.

Throughout adulthood, Doug excelled in his various careers over the years, working as a butcher, firefighter/EMT instructor, Bible school teacher, hunter’s safety instructor, rope rescue instructor, and tax accountant. He also worked endless hours at his dad’s service station in Broadview. Doug’s hobbies included tinkering, hunting, fishing, camping, panning for gold, and enriching his faith.

Doug was the loving father to three children from his first marriage: Tisha K. Mote, Amanda C. Long, and Elizabeth O. Slusar. On December 11, 1994, Doug married Nellie Smith. With Nellie came three stepchildren whom Doug considered his own: Twila Gorley, Yvonne Romnie and Karen Smith-Brown. Then, in November 2013, Doug and Nellie were blessed with the addition of two more children to their family: Deagan and Michael Mote. In his most recent years, Doug’s life was all about learning, teaching, laughing, growing, caring, and loving as he and Nellie raised Deagan and Mikey. He was known to live life to the fullest, and he was always there to help those in need.

On September 22, 2021, Doug Mote (76) was guided by the angels to greet his Savior. Doug’s love for Jesus was unwavering, and he dedicated his life to serving the Lord. Although we lost his earthly presence, we can be certain that he is at peace.

Doug is survived by his wife Nellie Mote; children Tisha Mote, Amanda Long, Deagan Mote, and Michael Mote; stepchildren Twila Gorley, Yvonne Romnie and Karen Smith-Brown; brother Larry Mote and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents Paul Hobart Mote and Mildred O.  Mote; brother E. Keith Mote; daughter Elizabeth Slusar and a great grandson Blayne Franklin.

A memorial service will be held in Dougs honor on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 10:00am at the Steed Todd Funeral Home Chapel, in Clovis, NM. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date.
