Edna Gilbert went home to be the Lord on April 19, 2008. She was born April 21, 1909 at home in Hopkins County, Texas to James and Birnie Pippin. Her parents were farmers in Texas, Oklahoma eventually settling in Clovis, New Mexico around 1925. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1927. She attended Highlands University in Las Vegas for 2 years, West Texas Hospital of Nursing in Lubbock and Hedrick Beauty School. She was married to Melvin Gilbert in 1942 until his death in 1975. In 1945 Edna and Melvin began farming land located 1 miles east on the Pleasant Hill highway. Her primary occupation was homemaker and she was very proud of her family.
She was a good cook and anyone visiting at meal time was always welcome. Edna enjoyed reading, gardening, family and friends as well as enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful nursery worker, active in womens fellowship and CYH helper at Central Christian Church when her children grew up. She was a member of First Christian church when she passed away.
She is survived by her daughters Ann Savory Robert, Garland, Texas, Lynn Poole Bill, Ringling, Montana; sons Jim of Houston, Texas, and Lewis in Clovis and daughter Janet Daniels Brad, Gold Canyon, Arizona; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, sister, Marion Gee of Apache Junction, Arizona and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin, and brothers, Clifford and L.C. Conrad Pippin.
Graveside services will be held at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens on Thursday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. with minister, Jon Forrest of First Christian Church officiating.
Honorary casket bearers will be Ray Starbuck, Jimmy Starbuck, Justin Starbuck, Ned Wright, Jimmy Gilliland Mike Winton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Portales Christian Childrens Home or Association For Retarded Citizens.
