Edward Lewis Stanfield went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 18. He was born on August 5, 1949, to James Edward and Sarah Luellen Stanfield. He grew up in Grady and had deep and abiding roots to that community. As a young boy growing up on a farm, he discovered his passion for horses and roping. He purchased his first horse when he was 12 and taught himself to rope. It was not only a hobby, but a catalyst that brought him some of his deepest, life-long friendships.
He served the community of Clovis as a banker for over 40 years, starting with Clovis National Bank, presently with Citizens Bank of Clovis. He enjoyed the challenge of banking and the people he met and helped to reach their dreams.
Eddie was a generous, kind-hearted man who believed in giving people a "second chance". He had a willing heart to help people who were in need of someone to believe in them. This belief came from his love of the Lord and the example of forgiveness that Jesus gave us.
Eddie was a cowboy. He believed in the cowboy way of life and thought that it was something to be proud of and supported. One of his greatest joys was to take a horse that others had written off and to make that horse a great one. He enjoyed trading horses, especially if he could barter some of his collection of horse paraphernalia, always striving to be honest and fair.
He loved his family dearly. He was a dedicated husband to his wife, Janita, for 42 years. She was his best friend and his solid rock. He was also a loving father to his daughter, Mandy (Kelby) Cowley, and his son, Neal (Ginger), both of Amarillo. He always encouraged them to be their best, putting God first. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, Sunny, Jake and Makenna Cowley and Gentry and Parker Stanfield.
In this most difficult time, Eddie's family is finding comfort in the Lord's love and mercy and in His promise that He is ever-present. "I will not fail thee nor forsake thee." Joshua 1:5b
He is survived by his wife and children, his brother, James Stanfield of Clovis, many nieces and nephews, and many friends, all of whom he loved very much.
