Edwin Vernon Jack WilliamsbrbrMay 24, 1912 December 9, 2005brbrEdwin Vernon Jack Williams passed away on December 9, 2005 in Farwell, Texas at age 93.brbrJack was born in Bethel, Oklahoma on May 24, 1912 to Albert Sydney and Flora LouisebrWilliams. He attended school at Bethel through 8th grade and then attended high school in Hollis, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1930. Jack earned a B.A. degree in education from Southwestern State Teachers College at Weatherford, Oklahoma and a M.A. degree in educational administration from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. On Christmas Eve in 1937 he married Ella Ruth Dumbauld, whom he met while both were attending Southwestern.brbrJack began his teaching career in Leedy, Oklahoma, he then taught and coached in the Muleshoe schools and served as high school principal and worked there for the Farm Security Administration. Jack and Ella Ruth moved their family to the West Camp community and farmed from 1943 to 1945. In 1945 Jack accepted a position with the Farwell School system as high school principal. They moved to Farwell in 1948 when he became Superintendent of Farwell Schools. His career at Farwell included serving as math teacher, football and basketball coach, high school principal, superintendent and elementary school principal. He retired from the Farwell school system in June of 1977 after serving for 32 years. Jack was named Man of the Year by the Farwell Chamber of Commerce in 1977.brbrAfter retiring from the Farwell school system, Jack joined Tri-County Savings and Loan as manager of the newly-established Farwell office. He was promoted to Vice President of Tri-County Savings and Loan in 1981 and retired from Tri-County in 1988 at age 76.brJack was a member of the Hamlin Memorial Methodist Church of Farwell and was a charter member of the Texico-Farwell Lions Club and the Texico-Farwell Fire Boys.brJack was preceded in death by: his parents, Albert Sydney and Flora Louise Williams, two brothers Johnnie Sydney Williams and William Walter Williams and two sisters Grace Clara Snyder and Robin Williams.brbrHe is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Ella Ruth Williams, and four children, BertbrWilliams of Houston, Texas, Richard Williams of Clear Lake City, Texas, Tom Williams of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and Sharon Armendariz of El Paso, Texas. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.brbrServices will be held at 3:00 PM CST Monday, December 12, 2005 at Hamlin MemorialbrUnited Methodist Church in Farwell, Texas. Rev. Beth Harrington and Rev. Scott Spitsberg will officiate.
