Effie Reed

Effie Reed, a beloved grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Harmony House in Amherst, Texas at the age of 93. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Steed-Todd Chapel with Elder Don McCasland officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis. Effie was born October 16, 1915 in Seymour, Texas to Beatrice and Edward Ewing. Effie and her late husband, Gray Reed owned El Monterrey Mexican Restaurant for many years. Effie was well-known for her cooking and hospitality. She loved to cook Mexican food, pies and cakes for her friends and family. She was a passionate gardener and grew lovely flowers, of which roses where her favorites.

Effie was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Sonny Gunnels, as well as two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her granddaughter Debbie Talley of Grapevine, Texas; four great grandchildren, Jordan, Kendra, Kelsey and Collin Talley all of Grapevine, Texas; one brother T.J. Ewing and wife Liz of Yoakum, Texas; one sister Marie Sullivan of Florida.
