Elizabeth Jane Gaut Brandon, Libby, passed away on November 6, 2010 in Flower Mound, Texas. She was 96 years old.
Elizabeth was born August 19, 1914 in Dodge City, Kansas to Roy Martin and Gertrude Flynn Gaut. She had 1 brother, John Robert Gaut, who passed in 1976.
She was raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico where she graduated from Highlands University at the age of 19 with a degree in Music and Drama. She also had a Masters in Music Education from ENMU. A prodigy on the violin, piano and organ, Elizabeth was a musician all her life.
She married Stonewall Jackson Brandon on June 18, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1968.
Elizabeth and Stonewall had 6 children, Walter who passed in 1946, Trudy who passed in 1945, Dana Moore Ronnie of Las Vegas, NM, Jan Clark of Queensbury, NY, Fran Phillips Jim of Clovis, and Jayne Williams Thomas of Highland Village, TX.
Elizabeth spread her love of music through teaching. She began in 1933 teaching in San Jon, New Mexico and retired from James Bickley Elementary School in 1981. She also taught private music lessons.
Elizabeth was a longtime Clovis resident. She was active in AAUW and BPW. She was a dedicated member of St. James Episcopal Church where she was the organist and choir director for over 30 years. Elizabeth was the first women elected to the St. James Vestry in 1977. After retirement, Elizabeth enjoyed volunteering at Clovis Hospital as a Pink Lady. She was also honored as a 75 year member of Sigma, Sigma, Sigma sorority. She moved in 1995 to Orlando, Fl with her daughter Jayne and traveled the nation with Jaynes family until returning to Dallas in 1998. She spent her last few years with her friends at Autumn Leaves in Flower Mound, TX.
Elizabeth loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren: Brandon, Burke, Joy, Jill, Lindsey, Angela, Cody, Leslie, Brooks, Ben, Karen, Patty and Anna Marie. She was also great grandmother to 12: Kelsi, Katie, Andrew, Braeden, Destine, Tyler, Baillie, Savanna, Nathan, Thomas, Bella, and Ellie.
A memorial service in Elizabeths honor will be held at SteedTodd Funeral Home on. Friday, November 12, 2010 at 2pm with graveside services to follow at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis, New Mexico. Pallbearers will be Brandon Moore, Burke Moore, Cody Phillips, Lynn Hopper, Beau Pelton, Brooks Hudgeons and Tracey Donels. The family will be at 813 Jeanie in Clovis following the service.
