Elizabeth Williams

Elizabeth Liz Ann Williams age 78 of Farwell, Texas passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Covenant Lakeside Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. She was born June 15, 1929 to Orville Poss and Lola Pat Mae Bigby Yeary in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended Texas Tech University where she met her first husband Glenn Phillips. They where married January 31, 1949 in Fort Worth, Texas and moved to Farwell, Texas where Glenn farmed. She later went back to school at Eastern New Mexico University where she received her Masters Degree in Education Administration. She was a teacher for 21 years at Farwell Junior High School where she taught Social Studies. She married Don Williams November 19, 1988 in Farwell, Texas where she lived until her passing. She was a member of Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church where she volunteered teaching Sunday school, was in the church choir, and helped with the Methodist Youth Fellowship for many years. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma enjoyed to travel and was a gourmet cook.

She is survived by her husband Don Williams of the home; two daughters Cindy Carthel and her husband Don; Penny Phillips both of Amarillo, Texas; one son Thad Phillips of Amarillo, Texas; one brother William Yeary and his wife Peggy of Ft. Stockton, Texas; two grandchildren Colby and his wife Sarah Carthel; Courtney and her husband Andrew Burgoon all of Canyon, Texas; three great-grandchildren; twin grand daughters Kylie and Kyler Burgoon and grandson Kelton Burgoon all of Canyon, Texas. Other survivors are her step-daughter Deana Welling of Canyon, Texas, step-son Clay Williams of New York, New York; step-grandchildren, Don Welling of Houston, Texas; Lacy Welling, Anna Kate Welling, and Will Welling all of Canyon, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons Craig and Frank Phillips

Services will be held Friday, November 16, 2007 at 11:00 cst at the Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church with Bobby McMillan, and Randall Partin officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Terrace Cemetery in Farwell, Texas. Pallbearers will be Colby Carthel, Andrew Burgoon, Clay Williams, Tim Cooper, Al Phillips, Don Welling, Ed Yeary, and Don Carthel. Honorary Pallbearers are all former students she taught and whose lives she touched. Memorial Contributions maybe made to a charity of your choice.
