Elmer Hargrove, age 90, of Farwell, TX, passed away on December 17, 2013 at Muleshoe Area Medical Center in Muleshoe, TX.
Elmer was born on July 29, 1923 in Rotan, TX to Robert Henry and Ella Maude Coppedge Hargrove. He graduated from Rotan High School then attended Texas Tech. His education was interrupted by his service as a Naval Pilot during World War II. Following the war, he returned to Texas Tech and graduated in 1947 with a degree in Agricultural Sciences. He married Peggy Louise Williams on March 7, 1947. Elmer was a longtime farmer in the Farwell community. He and Peggy celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2007, just prior to her death. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Farwell and served as Mayor of Farwell. He was a lifetime supporter of Texas Tech and held season tickets for Red Raider football since 1949. Elmer was an avid sports fan of all sports. He loved to play golf with his friends at the Farwell Country Club, which he helped to establish. Over the years Elmer traveled throughout the country with family and friends.
Elmer is survived by one daughter: Deborah Philip Troost of Lake Arthur, NM three sons: Greg Shannon Hargrove of Ft. Worth, TX, Brett Hargrove of Lubbock, TX and Kevin Hargrove of Lake Arthur, NM five grandchildren: Amy Powell, Vida Palma, Meredith and Mike Howard, Sarah Hargrove and Scott Hargrove four great grandchildren: Nicholas Powell, Ava Palma, Jaden Howard and Jack Howard sister in law Bettie Hargrove and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents wife Peggy three brothers: Robert, Bernice and James and brother in law Don Williams.
Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m. CST on Friday, December 20, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Farwell, TX with Pastor Russ Ponder officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell, TX. Pallbearers are Clay Williams, Vernon Scott, Scott Hargrove, Will Anderson, Eddie Meeks, Larry Erwin and Phil Troost. Honorary pallbearers are Harry Sheets, Richard Haseloff, Doyle Ford, Eddie Harrington, James Williams, Troy Christian, Fred Chandler, Jim Berry and all of Elmers other buddies and longtime friends. Friends may call at the funeral home. The casket will be closed at the services.
