Our beloved wife, sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend died peacefully on Monday evening, February 17, 2025, in Clovis New Mexico. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Emily was the first loved and devoted child of Dr. Harold and lone Potter McDonald.
Emily grew up on a farm north of Clovis where she loved and cared for many animals. Among those animals were her special dog, Christy, and her well-loved Appaloosa, Spotted Tail. She spent many years enjoying her childhood and youth there on the farm with her brothers and sister where they shared many adventures and fun. For a season in her youth, Emily took piano and ballet/jazz lessons. She always was outside with her animals, had a book in her hand, or both. She was an avid supporter of helpless animals, and she continued to thrive on reading.
Emily spent her school years in Clovis, New Mexico. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1968. From there, she spent many years in service in the retail industry working in clothing stores and at Stansell's Grocery store. She also served the children of Clovis as an educational assistant in kindergarten at James Bickley Elementary School.
While working at Stansell's, Emily met and married "the love of her life", Mike Sanders. Emily and Mike married on June 26, 1992, on the courthouse lawn in Farwell, TX. They happily shared over 32 years of love together. The couple loved to go fishing together and went to the mountains to breathe in the fresh air. Their love was evident throughout their many years of marriage.
Although Emily didn't have children of her own, she doted on her niece and nephews. She treated them to many happy memories. She loved her great nieces and nephews.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and lone McDonald and her brother Joseph (Joe) McDonald.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Mike Sanders. She also leaves her sister, Alice Richmond (Mike), her brother Winston McDonald, her niece, Suzanne Dosher (Jared), nephew, William Richmond and Jeffery McDonald all of Clovis, Dustin McDonald (Merideth) of Weatherford, and Waylon McDonald (Jessi) of Angel Fire.
Cremation will take place. Services will be Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 2:00 at Steed Todd chapel. Services will be led by Reverend Bill Case. Memorials may be made to a favorite animal shelter or rescue or for research of Alzheimer's.
