Emma Jeanene Riley, 73, passed away February 19, 2009 at St. Anthony Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, after a lengthy illness. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the 21st Street Church of Christ. Cecil Bunch will be officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Portales Cemetery in Portales, New Mexico.
Jeanene, as her family and friends knew her, was born in Portales, New Mexico on August 28, 1935. She graduated from Portales High School in 1953 and worked as a secretary for an insurance office. In 1954, she married Alvie Ned Riley and resided in Portales where a son, David, was born in 1955. She moved to Grants, New Mexico in 1956. While in Grants, Jeanene, worked as a secretary for a physicians office and insurance company. Another addition was made to the family in 1960 with the birth of a second son, Michael. In 1963, one last move was made to Clovis, New Mexico. Here, the long time Clovis resident built a successful life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Jeanene volunteered as a Pink Lady for Plains Regional Medical Center for several years. She was a longstanding member of the 21st Street Church of Christ. Jeanene enjoyed oil painting, drawing, reading and conversations with her family and friends. She was also a 26 year breast cancer survivor. Of all her accomplishments, the one thing in her life she was most proud of was her 55 year marriage.
Jeanene was preceded in death by her parents W.E. and Dovie Bazemore; and one brother Darrell Bazemore.
She is survived by her husband Alvie Ned of Clovis; two sons, David Riley of Hobbs, New Mexico and Michael Riley of Clovis, New Mexico; one sister Nena Stratton of Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico; four grandchildren; Tasha Riley of Portales, New Mexico, Shawna Carter of Socorro, New Mexico, Stacee Patton of Clovis, New Mexico, and John Riley of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two great-grand children, Elizabeth and Ethan Patton of Clovis, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.
