Our precious loved one, Erma, passed away to eternity in heaven, at her home in Clovis, New Mexico. This was following two long months of serious illness.
She was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Lura and Virgil Watterson. She married Carl W. Meredith on February 13, 1938 and they moved to Melrose, New Mexico where they were in the farming and ranching business. They were members of the First United Methodist Church of Melrose where Erma served the community with love for nearly seventy years. They thoroughly enjoyed life, both work and play. They enjoyed friends, dancing, horse racing, going to Las Vegas, couples league bowling, Bingo and all sorts of family activities. She and Carl were married for sixty eight years until his death on December 6, 2006.
Erma was survived by one daughter, Jan Runyan and son-in-law Wes, grandson Zane Runyan and his wife, Shawna and two great grand daughters Michelle and Blaze Runyan all from Roswell; one son James Carl Jamey Meredith and wife Doreen and grandson James all of Melrose; and grand daughter, Specialist Joyce Meredith of Fort Hood, Texas. Erma is also survived by companion Virgil Leeder of Clovis; three sisters Christine Barlow and Ladell Bruce of Melrose, Jane Sinclair and her husband Y.L. of Morton, Texas; sister-in-laws Angie Meredith from Suisun, California and Elvie Watterson from Lubbock, Texas; also many cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends who will miss her kindness, encouragement and pleasant personality.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents, a baby sister Little Reen, an older brother Everett Watterson and her loving husband, Carl.
Pallbearers will be long-time friends Jerry Woods, Johnny Pack, Jimmy Dale Smith, Butch Smith, James B. Moss III, MD, James Meredith and Zane Runyan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. James B. Moss, Cesareo Alcala, Bruce Murphy, Jeff Reed, Keaton Reed, Matt Cordova, Nathan Cordova, Benny Cordova, and Don Witcher.
Viewing will be held at Steed Todd Funeral Home, closed casket services of appreciation and tributes will be held at The First United Methodist Church in Melrose on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Danny Sanders officiating. Graveside service will be at the Melrose Cemetery.
