Ernest K. Shuey, age 95, of Clovis, New Mexico passed away on January 7, 2013 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis, New Mexico.
Ernie was born on July 31, 1917 in Muskingum County, Ohio to Harley Walter and Ruth Gertrude Kreager Shuey.
Ernie joined the United States Army on November 10, 1942. In 194243 as an Army Air Corps B25 Aircraft Commander, 1Lt Ernie Shuey, accomplished 59 bombing missions in the Asian theater. He flew the sturdy B25 through antiaircraft fire and Japanese fighter attacks. He brought his trusty bomber and crew safely back from 57 Bombing missions over Burma and 2 over China.
When the War ended in 1945, Ernie was Honorably Discharged from the Army Air Corps
and returned to civilian life. He worked for Watkins Products Company. Later he worked for North American Aviation Company as Technical Representative for the F86H at Cannon in 1954, then briefly Italy, Germany and France. North American sent Ernie to Marietta, GA to assist the Air National Guard in transitioning to the F86H. After ANG conversion at Marietta was complete, Ernie was released from NAA and then went to McDonnell Aircraft at St. Louis. McDonnell laid off 18,000 employees, Ernie was one.
Ernie and Maxie Eden were married on July 25, 1955 in Tempe, AZ and they returned to Clovis. Maxie, an AF widow, brought Robbie Sue to the marriage. Ernie signed on with the United States Post Office in 1960 and retired in 1981. Maxie passed away in 1997.
Ernie was a member of the John K. Cannon Flight in the Order Of Daedalians and a very
productive member of the High Plains Patriots and the Curry County Republicans. Ernie has been a faithful member of Westbrook Baptist Church for many years.
He is survived by one stepdaughter: Robbie Sue three grandchildren: Ricky, Kim and Phyllis six great grandchildren several great great grandchildren two sisters: Leila Bates and Eileen Hinkle three brothers: Robert Shuey, Kenneth Shuey and Edgar Shuey and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Harley and Ruth Shuey his wife Maxie in 1997 and three brothers: Harold, Herbert and Raymond Shuey.
Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Westbrook Baptist Church in Clovis with Reverend Stan White officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Westbrook Baptist Church Building Fund, 1420 N. Thornton, Clovis, NM 88101.
