While there, they had two sons, Charles and Steve, but Carl’s sudden death from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in 1951 necessitated Esther and the boys moving to Austin, TX to be near her family.
In September of 1954, Esther married Melvin Sachs in Austin and they moved to his farm near Friona, TX in the Panhandle where Betty Ann was born. They sold their farm and retired from farming in 1988 and moved to Farwell, TX. In 2000 they moved to Clovis, NM. Shortly after they celebrated their 50 th Wedding Anniversary in 2004, Melvin died and a few years later, Esther moved to Fulshear, TX to live with Betty and her family. Finally, she moved to Inspirations Senior Living Center in Pahrump, Nevada in 2014 to be near Charles and Glenna.
Esther was a devout Christian and a member of the Lutheran Church her entire life. She taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and in later years, she and Melvin worked with the Lutheran Braille Work Center at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farwell (Lariat) making Braille Bibles for the blind. She was a talented cook and the consummate homemaker. She will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, her husband, Melvin, sister, Alma Goetz, brothers Paul and Leonard Krueger and their spouses, and daughter Betty Ann Christ.
