Esther Ware of Grady New Mexico passed away on October 27, 2014 at her home in Grady at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Silas Hodges and Bessie BrocheroHodges and born in Norton New Mexico on January 28, 1923.
Esther was a lifelong New Mexican who married her husband of 71 years, Marion Ware, on July 24, 1943 in San Jon NM. Esther and her husband were members of Grady Baptist Church joining in September 1953. She was very active in her church working wherever she was needed from the church clerk to teaching grade school kids in Sunday school to helping out with Vacation Bible School. She was affectionately known as Grandma Ware to many of the young residents of Grady.
Mrs. Ware was an avid gardener who grew all kinds of vegetables in her garden from okra, squash, tomatoes, and green beans, to all types of flowers. She also worked in the field with her husband growing wheat, driving the tractor, and tending to cattle. She was a woman who was willing and able to take care of her family. Her coconut cream pies were a specialty and she loved to make afghan quilts and yarn wrapped hangers for anyone who wanted one. She was a talented seamstress who loved making embroidered cup towels and pillow cases and clothing for the kids and grand kids. Esther also loved a good game of dominoes, especially 42.
Survivors of her family include her husband Marion Ware of their home in Grady NM sons Jimmy Ware Debi of Grady NM and Dan Ware Margaret of Rio Rancho NM daughter Carol Priest of Crawfordsville IN brother Sam Hodges Charolette of Tulsa OK sister Opal Holley Cecil of San Antonio TX grandchildren Sandra Ware of San Diego CA, Michael Ware of Las Cruces NM, Curtis Ware Erin of Rio Rancho NM, Jeff Ware of Rio Rancho NM, Sid Ware Buffy of Moriarty NM, Tryndi Cox Junior of Logan NM great grandchildren Maddy and Cooper Ware of Rio Rancho, Morgan and Tyla Ware of Moriarty NM, Kaiden, Kelton, Karson Jones and Kanyon Cox of Logan NM.
She is preceded in death by her parents Silas and Bessie Hodges brothers Walter, Mark, Frank, Fred, Bill, Jesse, Lee Hodges sisters Sue McNabb and Juanita Stone.
Visitation will be at Steed Todd on Thursday October 30, 2014 from 10am to 8pm with her celebration of life on Friday October 31, 2014 at 2pm at Grady Baptist Church with burial to follow at Grady cemetery.
