Evelyn Fletcher

Evelyn Mae Bell Fletcher passed from this life, September 28, 2009. She was born December 17, 1921 to Elvy Orlando Bell and Edna Cleora Beall Bell in Pawnee, Oklahoma.

As a very young child they moved back to Melrose, New Mexico. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1939 after which she attended Texas Tech for one year. After returning to Melrose she met her future husband while he was pitching at a baseball game. Later she wrote in a Keepsake Book for her grandchildren, He was tall and good looking. Ben Bud Fletcher and Evelyn were married October 13, 1940. They made their home north of Melrose until May 1958 when they moved to Clovis, New Mexico.

Evelyn owned and operated Evelyns Beauty Shop across from Marshall Junior High. After selling her shop, she continued to help many shut-ins in their homes.

She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Fogerson of Clovis; 8 grandchildren, Paul Fogerson of Clovis, Jerry Bullock Sarah and Jimmy Bullock all of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Jennifer Brown Neal of Lubbock, Texas, Andrew Fogerson Vanessa Quick and Amanda Bomar Tim all of Clovis, Buddy Bullock Heather of Tustin, California and Jane Yound Dexter of Artesia, New Mexico; 19 great grandchildren; 1 niece, Regina Dean of Ruidoso; 3 great nieces, Pam Andersen of Midland, Texas, Michele Montey of Austin, Texas and Natalie Bramley of Mesa, Arizona and a daughter-in-law, Shary Bullock Rob of Artesia.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 1983; her only son, Linden in 1974; her parents; 2 brothers, Leo Bell in 1976 and Lawrance Bell in 1922 and one great grandson, Aaron Fogerson in 2000.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Linden Fletcher Scholarship Fund at Lubbock Christian University or the Alzheimers Wing at St. Anthony Healthcare in Clovis.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2009, at Steed-Todd Chapel. Burial will follow at Melrose Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers will be her neighbors and friends.
