Evie Thornton

Evie D. Thornton, age 69, of Clovis, New Mexico passed away at her home in Clovis on December 4, 2012.

She was born on October 24, 1943 to Clemons William and Annie Bell Capps Swann in Portales, New Mexico. She married Roy Franklin Thornton on June 17, 1961 in Clovis, New Mexico. Evie worked for 25 years at High Plains Federal Credit Union. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Evie was an avid bowler and competed in the local leagues at the old Aztec Bowling Alley for many years. She and her friends went to state and national tournaments. Roy and Evie loved to square dance and made a lot of lifetime friends all over the country when they went to dances. They all traveled together and have many great memories of the time they spent together. She was a true Texico Wolverine fan and followed her children and grandchildren all over the state for many years. She still attended home games as much as possible, regardless of what the sport might be. Evie loved her family and never met a stranger. She was dearly loved by her childrens friends who considered her like a second mom.

Evie is survived by her husband, Roy Thornton of the home two sons: Robert Beth Thornton of Pleasant Hill, New Mexico and Doug Edie Thornton of Clovis, New Mexico one daughter: Kayla Todd Mortensen of Blanchard, Oklahoma two brothers: Alvin Thelma Swann of Broadview, New Mexico and Paul Swann of Texico, New Mexico one sister: Doris Pijanowski of Bossier City, Louisiana nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clemons and Annie Swann seven sisters: Betty Brown, Vivian Venoy Price, Peggy McPherson, twinEva Gillean, Loretta Dudley, Marlene Gibson and Baby Sharon Swann.

Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Highland Baptist Church in Clovis with Reverend Dean Turvaville officiating. Burial will follow at Texico Cemetery in Texico, New Mexico. Casket bearers are Jack Gillean, Scott Gillean, Gary Swann, Bill Heaton, Floyd Dudley, Larry Dudley, Billy Womack and Paul Thornton.
