Fairene Harper

Jesus lovingly took the hand of Fairene Harper and led her home to be reunited with all the loved ones who preceded her, November 27, 2009. She was born May 13, 1927 in Graford, Texas to Clinton and Margaret Weeks and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jake; very best friend Jo Castille; precious baby great grandson Rance; sons-in-law, Jerry Sherwood and Cecil Thomas; beloved brother Billy Weeks; father Clint Weeks and mother Margaret who died tragically in 1937.

She married Jake Harper July 27, 1947 and made their home in Grady, New Mexico for almost 58 years. Survived by six daughters and spouses, Janis Kay formerly Janis Thomas Mike Rowe of Ruidoso; Jakie Lynn formerly Jakie Sherwood Frankie Masters of Grady; Vicki Lee Bill Bunch of Grady; Ricki Ann John D. Read of Las Vegas, NM; Judy Nan Wade Whitehead of Tucumcari and Monti Bill Bubba Pogue of Eastland, TX; 19 Grandchildren - Lee Thomas, Joeli Cathey, Bert, Jason Jim Bob Sherwood; Clint Kyle Bunch; Fairann Long, Quail, Brooks Taylor Read; Jami Causey, Clay Whitehead Audra Leighton; Pecos Jakeo Pogue and Acy Hopkins - 33 Great Grandchildren number 34 due in December and 3 Great-great grandchildren.

Fairene never met a stranger and was well known for her positive attitude, hard work, bluntness and welcoming all into her home. She worked in the Postal Service for 34 years as Post Master Relief and Post Master in Grady. Her and Jake also raced horses with partners, Jerry Vandean Isler Harper-Isler Racing Stables for over 50 years.

Friends and family are invited to attend Memorial Services at the Grady Senior Center, Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Christian Childrens Home in Portales. Fairene felt very deeply about giving to this home and would want all the children to have a very good Christmas.
