Felix Cleveland

Felix Odell Cleveland was born on October 14, 1924 in Lubbock, Texas to William Doff and Mattie Flay Cleveland. He was in the trucking business with his father for many years.

He entered the U.S. Navy and served from 1943 1946 with an Honorable Discharge, Machinist 2nd Class Point System. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and was to receive 1st Class, but changed to the U.S.S. Crane.

Mr. Cleveland was Service Manager for Bynum Olds of Portales. He married Helen Ruth Wilcher In 1951. He moved to Texas and opened his own business from 1955 1957. He moved to Palmdale, CA and opened his business there, which was very successful through the years. He purchased land and was president of Cleves Enterprises, Inc. for more than fifty years, which included a radio station, dental business, parts store, machine shop, radiator and auto shop, and a Walnut Ranch.

He was always helping those in need. He was a surrogate father and grandfather to many, helping young men and women through school, and instructing them how to be successful in business.

Mr. Cleveland was honored by the Chamber of Commerce of Palmdale. He was an honored guest to the White House under President Reagans office, as he was a lifetime member of the Presidential Task Force. In 2001, he was honored by California Senator Pete Knight, California State Assembly man George Runner, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association of America. He moved to Clovis, New Mexico, in 2002 and was a member of Central Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Irene Reed, brothers Leo Cleveland, C. Wallace Cleveland wife Elsie, Lynn Cleveland, and Charlie Cleveland.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, son Jerry wife Melinda, grandsons Seth wife Kelly and Adam of Oregon and five grandchildren, and sister Florene Rutherford husband Larry of Broadview, New Mexico, and many other surrogate children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.

His hobbies included buying and restoring antique cars. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Baptist Childrens Home, 2200 S. Avenue I, Portales, New Mexico or Hospice of Sandia.

Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at SteedTodd Funeral Home Chapel in Clovis, New Mexico, with Pastor Alan McAlister officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery in Portales, New Mexico. Honorary pallbearers are members of Charlies Angels Sunday school class.
