Foy Bailey

November 12, 1913 — April 30, 2011

Foy Lee Bailey, age 97, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Farwell Convalescent Center in Farwell, Texas. He was born November 12, 1913 in Nocona, Texas to Christine Powers and William Henry Bailey.

When Foy was 14 years old, his mother died leaving him and seven younger siblings along with his Dad. The family struggled on a farm near Grady and Ruth, so Foy went to work at an early age. He married Grace Lee Wall in November 1933, and they celebrated their 75th anniversary together before she died in April, 2009. In their early years of marriage he worked on a farm, for the Workers Progress Administration on the dam in Fort Sumner, and then on construction of Curry County Courthouse. That was followed by work with the Soil Conservation Administration which involved building contours on wheat land in and around Curry County. He also helped in the construction of the dam in Carlsbad. The main labor of his life was that of a homebuilder which included over 100 houses that he either built or completely remodeled. He earned quite a reputation as a cabinet maker and furniture refinisher and continued to ply his trade up into his 90s.

Foy and Grace were faithful members of 16th Pile Church of Christ, having moved the congregation from 9th Connelly. Both Grace and Foy loved the members there, and that love was returned.

All 5 of their children graduated from Clovis High School.

He was an avid gardener, dearly loved to go fishing and boating with his family, and especially pulling everyone around the lake on skis. Playing 42 with family and friends was a delight to everyone. He and Grace helped start a motor home club Good Sams and enjoyed trips with their friends. He can be best described by the scripture I Thess. 4:1112 Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy, in 1941, his beloved wife Grace and his son Darrell in 2009. He is survived by three daughters and their spouses: Virginia Thomas Rhodes of Amarillo, Karen Mike McCall of Hempstead, TX, Leta Chuck Harvel of Aiken, SC one son and spouse, Jerry Nita Bailey of Clovis one daughterinlaw, Jeanie Bailey 11 grandchildren 20 greatgrandchildren three greatgreat grandchildren one sister, Bessie Rose of Ventura, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 16th Pile Church of Christ in Clovis. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories. Casket bearers will be Foys grandsons.

The family will be at the home of Jeanie Bailey, 1405 Hillcrest, in Clovis. Arrangements are by SteedTodd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manana Blvd., Clovis, New Mexico 88101, 5757635541. Visit www.steedtodd.com to sign the online guestbook.
