Frances Norton

Frances Ruth Carpenter Norton, 98, of Farwell, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011 at Farwell Convalescent Center.

Services will be Thursday, April 28 at 10:00 a.m. MDT at the Fairview Primitive Baptist Church, East 5th St. Johnson, in Clovis, New Mexico, with Steve Baldock and Gene Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Terrace Cemetery in Farwell.

Frances was born in Wolfe City, Texas, on January 20, 1913, to Wade and Ollie Jackson Carpenter. The family moved to the Campbell Community near Floydada in 1914. They moved to the Oklahoma Lane Community near Farwell in 1927. Frances attended school at Oklahoma Lane School transferring to Farwell School her senior year. She was honored as the oldest living graduate of Farwell High School during the 100 year school reunion in 2008.

On March 7, 1937, she married Lester Norton at Dougherty, Texas. She was a homemaker and housewife, raising seven children giving her a sense of humor that made all their lives quite interesting. She was an excellent cook, never knowing how many she would cook for each day, even the occasional hitchhikers Lester would pick up and bring home. Needlework and gardening were a couple of her favorite hobbies. She was blessed with a spirit of generosity, as well as always giving unconditional love. She will be missed.

She was a faithful member of the Fairview Primitive Baptist Church of Clovis, New Mexico.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband her parents one brother, J.W. one sister, Helen Massongill two sons, Darrell Francis and James Harold two grandsons, James Harold, Jr., and Kyle Jamison and two granddaughters, Leslie Norton Lundsford and Tina Geries Dorwald.

She is survived by one brother, Harold Avis Carpenter five children, Alta Herman Geries, Gerald Anne Norton, Wilma Leon Jamison, Charles Wade Lisa Norton, and David Pam Norton a daughterinlaw, Bernice Norton 21 grandchildren 37 greatgrandchildren 15 greatgreatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
