Freddie Birdsong

August 12, 1937 — December 28, 2024

Freddie was born in Kilgore, Texas on August 12, 1937. He went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2024, at the age of 87. His firm belief in Jesus Christ gave him peace throughout his life and especially in his final days.

Freddie grew up in Kilgore, Texas and graduated from Kilgore High School, in 1956. After high school, Freddie joined the United States Air Force. A year later, he was stationed at Walker Air Force Base, Roswell, New Mexico.

While he was in Roswell, he met his future wife, Gladys Cunningham, at a skating rink. On July 27, 1958, they joined their hearts in marriage. God blessed their 63 year marriage with two children, Lynnette and Curtis. God knew Freddie had a passion for camping, fishing, and traveling so He provided the young family the opportunity to live in and explore Europe for many years. Freddie served most of his 24-plus year career in aircraft maintenance and retired as a Master Sergeant at Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, New Mexico. Freddie's military awards included the Vietnam Service Medal, two Overseas Service Medals, and a Good Conduct Medal.

After the military, Freddie started another 20-plus year career working for Alsup's as a Master of Refrigeration. After retiring from Alsup's, he was active in NM Baptist Disaster Relief and in the Deacon's Ministry at Central Baptist Church. Throughout his two careers and into retirement, he loved fixing things or helping others to troubleshoot and fix things.

When God sent Freddie and Gladys to Clovis, He blessed them with a countless number of friends and a loving church family at Central Baptist Church. God also gave them three grandchildren. Words cannot express how much they loved them or how much joy they brought to their hearts.

Freddie is survived by his daughter Lynnette (Charles) Roller, son Curtis (Debbie) Birdsong, unofficially adopted son Bill (Amanda) Walters, and grandchildren Micah (Taylor) Neatherlin, Bryanna (Michael) Freer. and Chance Birdsong. Also surviving Freddie are his sisters in law Roxie (Don) LaBelle, Ella (Jim) Willis, Kathy (Tom) Landry, Mary (Wayne) Almstrom and brother-in-law, Jerry (Monnie) Cunningham.

Freddie was preceded in death by his wife Gladys, Parents Grady "Pa Bird" and Dixie Luvenia "Granny Bird" Birdsong of Kilgore, Texas, and Siblings, Wilma (Martin) Clark, Christine (La Rue) Grozier, Semuel Fate (Betty) Birdsong, Grady Ray (Wilma) Birdsong, Mary (James) Shelton, and James Fogle Birdsong, all are buried in the Danville Cemetery.

Freddie's life will be celebrated at Central Baptist Church on January 25, 2025, at 10:00. He will be interred at Danville Cemetery.
